My audience for this research essay is Asian-Americans who are worried and unaware of affirmative action and bias against Asians during college admissions processes. The essay is catered towards ages the young and the old; the young who are given the chance to participate in a higher education, and the old who worry about the future of the young.
The purpose is to alert people of such discrimination and spark radical thoughts in members of the Asian community. If the topic is brought up more often and highlighted to the press, there can be changes in the system that then can serve equal opportunity and impartiality.
The tone of my essay shall feel personal to the audience. I want to establish a connection with Asians who have experienced inequity and have witnessed the movements behind the scenes during the admissions procedure. As an exaggeration, the writing piece should make the audience feel attacked in such a way that provokes unrest and movement.
The genre of my article would be similar to an online, first-person article/blog. There will be an abundance of facts and statistics, but would not feel overwhelming to the reader.
